About Us

In 1966 Fred Veldsma moved his family from Cadillac, Michigan to the Southside of Atlanta, Georgia. As a sales representative for a large tree company, he traveled the South selling trees and accessory items like tree stands. He helped introduce Scotch Pine as a Christmas tree to Georgia and it was well received by his nursery customers like Pike and Green Bros. in Atlanta.

By 1977 Mr. Veldsma had established his own business, but his health had declined. At that time his daughter, Linda Veldsma Lillie, joined the company and the business was incorporated. Although no sons were in involved, Fred insisted on naming the business Veldsma & Sons. It had been his life-long dream to have a business by that name and besides he said he just couldn't name it Veldsma & Daughters.

Within a year Fred's son-in-law, Rick Peel, joined Veldsma & Sons and brought his talents to the company. Veldsma & Sons first catalog was printed in 1978. John Veldsma, the youngest of the six Veldsma children, joined the business in 1985 shortly after graduating from the University of Georgia with a degree in computer science. John's talent and knowledge of computers brought a whole new dimension to the catalog and to the business.

Over the last 44 years many things have changed-Fred passed away in 1985, and Rick and John have moved on to other endeavours. The company is still family owned and managed by Linda. There are now 3 Seasonal catalogs- Spring, Halloween, and Christmas, as well as a website. The list of products has grown significantly, as has the number of employees and warehouse space. Even with all the changes Veldsma & Sons has not changed their commitment to fair pricing, friendly service, and customer satisfaction.
